Anxious for Spring

Anxious for Spring

And I do mean anxious … as in an uptick in my nervous system, a sensation of my body revving up and out of the slumbers of winter.

I want to move with it, but it feels a bit flighty and scattered. I usually LOVE my morning coffee, yet right now it makes me feel jumpy.

I’m kind of confused, to be honest. My body seems to desire more fresh, raw foods right now, but I know they’re not exactly the most settling on the system. For those of you who follow Ayurveda, I carry a prominent Vata element, which calls for warming, heavier foods. So, am I supposed to follow instructions or go with what feels attractive?

This particular quandary is not unlike others I’ve experienced in my life: Do I follow advice or my own instincts? If I had to place a bet, I’d guess it’s a bit of both—honoring my body’s cues while being prudent about my actions according to what I’ve learned from trusted teachers.

Speaking of actions, now feels like the perfect time for yoga. I can always count on this beautiful practice to help clear my perspective. I get to give up the mental debate, follow along for a bit, become one with my body, and arise having been reborn in some way.

How about you? Do you ever find it challenging to heed BOTH the voice of your own instinct AND the guidance of trusted sources?
